Vårterminen är till ända och sommaren stundar. Många studenter och doktorander inom AIL har tagit sin examen och är nu rustade för samhällets utmaningar samt kunskapsutveckling där mötet mellan arbete och lärande, utbildning och kompetens kan ske - så stort grattis till samhället! Investering i AIL är central för att säkerställa relevant, hållbar kompetensförsörjning i ett föränderligt arbetsliv.
AIL-forskningen har fått starkare fäste inom vår europeiska universitetsallians STARS EU där vi utvecklar en Tematisk intressegrupp (TIG) om Utbildning och Lärande i och för det nya arbetslivet. Ett flertal lärosäten är engagerade och uppstart kommer ske efter sommaren.
Vår internationella konferens WIL26 har fått rekordmånga bidrag i år! Granskningsprocessen är nu klar och ett preliminärt program ligger ute på konferensen hemsida https://www.hv.se/wil26. Vi har keynote speakers som kommer lyfta AILs forskning och användningsområden inom GenAI - detta ser vi fram emot.
AIL är högskolans styrkeområde och vi har nu förstärkt vår ledningsgrupp med två nya tematiska ledare: docent Annika Eklund samt doktor Ville Björck. Varmt välkomna att utveckla miljön med oss!

En ny studie från Högskolan Väst i samverkan med Drivhuset i Göteborg visar att artificiell intelligens (AI) kan bli ett värdefullt stöd i entreprenörskapsutbildning men utan att ersätta det mänskliga mötet som är centralt i lärandet. Studien prisades nyligen internationellt med nominering till Best Paper Award.

Hur ska Sotenäs kommun kunna locka till sig fler åretruntboende? Det har forskare från Högskolan Väst undersökt i en rapport. Slutsatserna presenterades nyligen för tjänstepersoner och politiker i kommunen.
Rapporten är den första i en serie AIL-rapporter som kommer att sätta fokus på konkreta samhällsutmaningar utifrån ett lokalt och regionalt perspektiv. Målet är att de ska kunna användas praktiskt i kommuner, företag och organisationer.

Högskolan Väst har nu antagit sin doktorand nummer 100 inom Arbetsintegrerat lärande (AIL). AIL är ett forskarutbildningsämne som är unikt i Sverige och som sedan starten för dryga 10 år sedan vuxit till en stark miljö. Doktoranden kommer att bedriva sin forskning med fokus på hur digitala miljöer kan bidra till att förebygga sexuella övergrepp mot barn på nätet.

Först - tack Elmia Produktionsmässor för inbjudan att vara med i år!
Högskolans forskare deltog med monter, på stora scenen och höll work-shop - allt för att presentera aktuell forskning på temat "Människocentrerad industri för en smart framtid". Det var många givande samtal och möten där vi fortsätter att forma framtidens industriellt arbetsintegrerade lärande, I-AIL, i samverkan med industrin.
Vi representerade I-AIL och presenterade högskolans arbete i framför allt följande projekt:
Tack nummer två går till JTU Jönköpings Tekniska Högskola och deras forskningsgrupper inom Arbetsorganisation och verksamhetsledning som vi haft nöjet och nyttan att besöka under våren. Detta främst med koppling till PROWIL-projektet som representerades av Linnéa Carlsson, Fredrik Sikström, Kristina Eriksson och Anna Karin Olsson. Vi delade projekterfarenheter och diskuterade framtida samarbete.

Utlysningen avser ett specialnummer i högskolans tidskrift CIWIL på temat Innovation och Lärande inom Hälsa och Välfärd och pågår mellan juli 2026 och november 2026.
Fokus är forskning om samspelet mellan innovation och lärande inom hälsa och välfärd. Särskilt fokus ligger på hur detta påverkar vårdprofessioners arbetsvillkor, patienters och närståendes livssituation samt livslångt lärande. Syftet är att bidra till en jämlik, personcentrerad och hållbar hälso- och sjukvård.
I en tid av snabb teknologisk och samhällelig förändring efterfrågas projekt som kritiskt analyserar hur innovationer, särskilt digitala, påverkar vårdens kvalitet, organisering och aktörers välbefinnande. Forskningen ska generera ny kunskap, stödja utvecklingen av innovativa lösningar och bidra till policy- och verksamhetsutveckling inom hälsa och välfärd.
Särskilt välkomnas bidrag som problematiserar antagandet att innovation automatiskt leder till förbättring inom hälsa och välfärd och det lärande som är relaterat till detta. I stället bör innovation och lärande belysas som en komplex social förändringsprocess med betydelse för jämlikhet, inkludering och hållbarhet.

The spring semester has come to an end, and summer is just around the corner. Many students and doctoral candidates within WIL have graduated and are now well prepared for society’s challenges and for knowledge development—where the meeting between work and learning, education and competence can take place—so congratulations to society! Investing in WIL is essential to ensure a relevant and sustainable supply of skills in a changing working life.
AIL research has gained a stronger foothold within our European university alliance STARS EU, where we are developing a Thematic Interest Group (TIG) on Education and Learning in and for the new working life. Several higher education institutions are engaged, and the initiative will launch after the summer.
Our international conference WIL26 has received a record number of submissions this year! The review process is now complete, and a preliminary programme is available on the conference website https://www.hv.se/wil26. We have keynote speakers who will highlight WIL research and its applications within GenAI—something we are very much looking forward to.
WIL is the university’s area of strength, and we have now strengthened our management team with two new thematic leaders: Associate Professor Annika Eklund and PhD Ville Björck. A warm welcome to develop the environment with us!

New study: award-winning research shows how AI strengthens entrepreneurship education
A new study from University West, in collaboration with Drivhuset in Gothenburg, shows that artificial intelligence (AI) can become a valuable support in entrepreneurship education, without replacing the human interaction that is central to learning. The study was recently recognized internationally, with a nomination for the Best Paper Award.

A new report series will help deliver solutions to societal challenges
How can the Municipality of Sotenäs attract more year-round residents? Researchers from University West have explored this question in a report. The conclusions were recently presented to municipal officials and politicians in the municipality.
The report is the first in a series of WIL-reports that will highlight concrete societal challenges from a local and regional perspective. The aim is for them to be used in a practical way by municipalities, companies and organisations.

Milestone: PhD Candidate number 100 -
with a focus on digital crime prevention
University West has now admitted its 100th PhD candidate in Work-Integrated Learning (WIL). WIL is a third-cycle subject that is unique in Sweden and has, since its launch just over 10 years ago, grown into a strong research environment. The PhD candidate will conduct research focusing on how digital environments can help prevent child sexual abuse online.

First of all – thank you to Elmia Production Fairs for the invitation to take part this year!
The University’s researchers participated with an exhibition stand, appeared on the main stage, and held a workshop – all to present current research on the theme “Human-centred industry for a smart future”. There were many rewarding conversations and meetings where we continue to shape the future of industrial work-integrated learning, I-WIL, in collaboration with industry.
We represented I-WIL and presented the University’s work mainly within the following projects:
Our second thank-you goes to JTU, Jönköping University School of Engineering, and their research groups in Work Organisation and Operations Management, whom we have had the pleasure and benefit of visiting during the spring. This was primarily linked to the PROWIL project, represented by Linnéa Carlsson, Fredrik Sikström, Kristina Eriksson and Anna Karin Olsson. We shared project experiences and discussed future collaboration.

The call concerns a special issue of the university’s journal CIWIL on the theme Innovation and Learning in Health and Welfare and runs from July 2026 to November 2026.
The focus is research on the interaction between innovation and learning in health and welfare. Particular emphasis is placed on how this affects healthcare professionals’ working conditions, the life situation of patients and their relatives, and lifelong learning. The aim is to contribute to an equitable, person-centred, and sustainable healthcare system.
In a time of rapid technological and societal change, projects are sought that critically analyse how innovations—especially digital ones—affect the quality and organisation of healthcare, as well as the wellbeing of those involved. The research should generate new knowledge, support the development of innovative solutions, and contribute to policy and practice development in health and welfare.
Contributions are especially welcome that problematise the assumption that innovation automatically leads to improvement in health and welfare and the learning related to it. Instead, innovation and learning should be highlighted as a complex process of social change with implications for equity, inclusion, and sustainability.

First of all – thank you to everyone who has submitted papers! There is a significant increase compared with the previous conference, which is great news. Right now, notifications are being sent out to those whose contributions have been accepted. All accepted papers will be published in the WIL Proceedings, ranked in the Norwegian List.
WIL26 is the fourth international conference on work-integrated learning, held at University West in Trollhättan on 21–23 September 2026. This year’s theme is “Embracing Diversity in Work-Integrated Learning Practices”.
