Forskning inom arbetsintegrerat lärande utvecklas och berör många. Med ett transdisciplinärt arbetssätt engageras både akademiska och icke-akademiska parter för att ta sig an samhällsutmaningar med koppling till arbetslivsfrågor och lärande. Flertalet av våra AIL-projekt sker i nära samverkan med verksamheter, som blir det riktiga ”labbet” där samhällsvetenskaplig AIL-forskning tar plats. Nästa nyhetsbrev kommer ut i februari 2025 - och innan dess ska vi fira både akademisk högtid och jul.

Teamet bakom forskningsprojektet PROWIL: åtta industriföretag och forskare inom produktionsteknik och arbetsintegrerat lärande vid Högskolan Väst.

Forskare och industri samverkar för att lösa utmaningar inom automation

Små och stora industriföretag brottas med utmaningar i den stora teknikomställning som pågår. När industrirobotar och operatörer ska samarbeta på nya sätt behöver det mänskliga perspektivet finnas med redan från start. Åtta industriföretag deltar i ett nystartat tvärvetenskapligt forskningsprojekt med målet att ta fram nya metoder för AI-styrning som tar hänsyn till människors förutsättningar.

Jan och Marie-Helene backar barnet i Dalsland 

Hela Dalsland utbildas nu i det nya arbetssättet Backa barnet. Ett 50-tal personer från åtta kommuner samlades i Åmål för en utbildning i arbetsmodellen Backa barnet. Med hjälp av modellen ska man tidigare upptäcka, fånga upp och ge rätt stöd till de barn som behöver, så att fler klarar sin skolgång. I nuläget är det 10 kommuner i landet som aktivt arbetar med Backa barnet.

Utbildningsdagarna i Åmål följdes av Jan Gustafsson Nyckel och Marie-Helene Zimmerman Nilsson, två forskare från Högskolan Väst. Deras följeforskning under projekttiden för införandet av Backa barnet i hela Dalsland har inriktningen arbetsintegrerat lärande.

Digitaliseringsprojekt med fokus på hållbar turism

När Covid 19-pandemin sköljde in över världen var det mycket som stannade av. Några som tvingades ställa in och ställa om var besöksnäringen. Högskolan Väst har varit en del av projektet UPREST som undersökt hur den europeiska turistsektorn kan utvecklas genom digitalisering.

En ny spännande, valbar forskarutbildningskurs har precis avslutats: Strategisk karriärplanering i forskarutbildning genom arbetsintegrerat lärande. Kursen kommer även att ges som en BIP (blended intensive program) inom ramen av STARS EU under 2025 för att utveckla vårt europeiska samarbete genom forskarutbildningsaktiviteter University West - Strategic Career Planning in PhD Education via Work-Integrated Learning – Blended Intensive Program (BIP), 5 hp

Flera doktorandröster vittnar om kursens värde. Maria Holmbom, doktorand i arbetsintegrerat lärande vid Institutionen för individ och samhälle kommenterar:

”This course opened my eyes to new career possibilities, for instance, through the 'celebrity interviews' with PhD graduates who are further along in their career paths. These sessions offered valuable insights, allowing us to explore different paths, ask questions, and be inspired by their tips and strategies. Konferens samlade forskningselit inom arbetsintegrerat lärande

Över 100 delegater från hela världen möttes i Trollhättan när Högskolan Väst var värd för den högt ansedda forskningskonferensen WACE International Research Symposium. Keynotes blandades med seminarier och workshops när ledande forskare inom arbetsintegrerat lärande (AIL) samlades för att prata om AIL som katalysator för att nå det hållbara kunskapssamhället.

Digitala lösningar allt viktigare i framtidens vård och omsorg

Mobila trygghetslarm, läkemedelsautomater och smarta dokumenteringssystem. Digitaliseringen inom vård och omsorg skapar nya möjligheter för både personal och brukare.

I mitten av september hölls den årliga konferensen Digitalisering och lärande för hållbar hälsa, vård och omsorg i samhället. Ett 80-tal deltagare från vård och omsorg, forskare och studenter kom till Högskolan Väst för att dela ny kunskap och erfarenheter från olika delar av vården.

Ny hedersdoktor med stark AIL-inriktning

Stephen Billett, Professor of Adult and Vocational Education, Griffith University, Australien har utsetts till hedersdoktor vid Högskolan Väst. Hedersdoktorer utses för att hedra individer som gjort insatser som har eller har haft stor betydelse för Högskolan Väst och Stephen Billett har stark koppling till högskolans styrkeområde Arbetsintegrerat lärande.

Ny doktor: Camilla Gjellebæk

Digital teknik kan hjälpa till att göra vården både effektivare och mer patientsäker, men bara om personalen ges möjlighet att lära sig använda tekniken. En ny avhandling från Högskolan Väst undersöker vad som krävs för en lyckad digitalisering av kommunal hälso- och sjukvård.

•  Internat ”WIL Days” 
  I december anordnas ”WIL Days” för doktorander och AIL-doktorer för att främja artikelskrivande och internationellt nätverkande på hemmaplan. Sessioner med feed-forward metodik och keynotes ingår. Vi får celebert besök av Professor Stephen Billett, vår nye hedersdoktor, som håller seminarium. En ledningsdelegation från Norge, Högskolan Kristiania, kommer också till oss för att utveckla AIL i utbildning och forskning. Just Kristiania i Oslo är värd tillsammans med oss för nästa års internationella AIL-konferens och nu sätts detaljerna för call for papers och program i den konferensen, WIL25

Konferenser inom arbetsintegrerat lärande

Forskningen inom arbetsintegrerat lärande är i allra högsta grad internationell och högskolan är en aktiv part i flera globala konferenser. Några exempel:

• Nordic ISCAR Conference 
  We are happy to announce that the Nordic ISCAR Conference will be hosted by University West, Trollhättan, Sweden, 17-19 June 2025. The International Society for Cultural-historical Activity Research (ISCAR) is a scientific association that aims at developing multidisciplinary theoretical and empirical research on societal, cultural and historical dimensions of human practices.

  We want to co-create a unique arena for enhancing and sharing both research and practice on Cultural-Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) and related topics. This year’s theme is “Working and learning with CHAT-driven research”.

• WIL25 Work-Integrated Learning
  WIL25 is the third international conference on Work-Integrated Learning. The conference will be hosted by University West, Sweden, in collaboration with Kristiania University College. The conference will take place from September 29th to October 1st, at Kristiania’s campus in Oslo, Norway. Warmly welcome!

Research in work-integrated learning (WIL) is growing and touches many. Using a transdisciplinary approach, both academic and non-academic stakeholders are engaged to address societal challenges related to work and learning. Many of our WIL projects are conducted in close collaboration with organizations, which serve as the real "labs" where social science WIL research takes place. Researchers and industry collaborates to solve automation challenges

Small and large industrial companies have challenges in the ongoing major technological transition. When industrial robots and operators are to collaborate in new ways, the human perspective needs to be included from the start. Eight manufacturing companies are participating in a newly launched transdisciplinary research project aimed at developing human-centric AI solutions.

Jan and Marie-Helene "backar barnet" 

The entire region of Dalsland is now being trained in the new approach Backa barnet ("Back the Child"). Around 50 participants from eight municipalities gathered in Åmål for training in the Backa barnet working model. The model aims to identify, support, and provide appropriate assistance to children in need earlier, helping more students succeed in school. Currently, 10 municipalities in Sweden are actively working with Backa barnet.

The training sessions in Åmål were observed by Jan Gustafsson Nyckel and Marie-Helene Zimmerman Nilsson, two researchers from the University West. Their accompanying research during the project implementation of Backa barnet across Dalsland focuses on Work-Integrated Learning.

Digitalization project with focus on sustainable tourism

When the COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world, many things came to a halt. Among those affected were the tourism and hospitality industries, which had to cancel and adapt their operations. University West has been a part of the UPREST project, investigating how the European tourism sector can develop through digitalization.

A new course

A new, exciting, optional doctoral course has just concluded: Strategisk karriärplanering i forskarutbildning genom arbetsintegrerat lärande. This course will also be offered as a Blended Intensive Program (BIP) within the STARS EU framework in 2025, to enhance European collaboration through doctoral education activities. Conference gathered the research elite in Work-Integrated Learning

Over 100 delegates from around the world gathered in Trollhättan as University West hosted the highly esteemed WACE International Research Symposium. Keynote speeches were combined with seminars and workshops as leading researchers in Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) came together to discuss WIL as a catalyst for achieving a sustainable knowledge society.

Digital solutions increasingly vital in the future of health and social care

Mobile safety alarms, medication dispensers, and smart documentation systems – digitalization in health and social care is creating new opportunities for both staff and users.

In mid-September, the annual conference Digitalisering och lärande för hållbar hälsa, vård och omsorg i samhället was held. Around 80 participants, including healthcare professionals, researchers, and students, gathered at University West to share new knowledge and experiences from various sectors of healthcare.

A new honorary doctor

Stephen Billett, Professor of Adult and Vocational Education, Griffith University, Australia, has been appointed honorary doctor at University West. Honorary doctors are appointed to honor individuals who have made contributions that have or have had great significance for University West, and Stephen Billett has a strong connection to Work-Integrated Learning.

A new PhD: Camilla Gjellebæk

Digital technology has the potential to make healthcare both more efficient and safer for patients, but only if staff are given the time and resources to learn how to use it effectively. A new doctoral thesis from University West explores the conditions necessary for successfully digitalizing municipal healthcare services.

• Residential Event: "WIL Days"
  In December, “WIL Days” will be held for PhD students and WIL doctoral researchers to promote article writing and international networking locally. The event will include sessions using feed-forward methodology and keynote speeches. We are honored to welcome Professor Stephen Billett, our new honorary doctor, who will host a seminar. A leadership delegation from Kristiania University College in Norway will also join us to further develop WIL in education and research. Kristiania, located in Oslo, is co-hosting next year’s international WIL conference with us, WIL25. Planning for the call for papers and program details is now underway.
