15th CBRNe Protection Symposium and the Exhibition of CBRNe protection equipment

2025 • September 30 - October 2 Malmö Sweden

Chair's Insights: Unveiling the New Structure of the CBRNe Protection Symposium

I am pleased to announce that the forthcoming 15th CBRNe Protection Symposium will feature significant improvements to enhance the overall experience and value for our participants. Among the most notable changes this year is the introduction of four separate tracks, each with a dedicated room, allowing for a more focused and in-depth examination of critical CBRNe defence issues.

The symposium's new structure revolves around four key themes: Innovation, Detection, Resilience, and Management. This format not only streamlines the conference experience but also introduces new sessions that better reflect recent scientific developments in the field. For instance, the "Frontiers of Innovation in CBRNe Defence" track now includes cutting-edge topics such as the application of artificial intelligence in CBRNe preparedness and the use of advanced materials in protective technologies.

Our "Next-Generation Detection and Analysis Techniques" track has been updated to showcase the latest advancements in rapid biological indicators and state-of-the-art forensic techniques. The "Proactive Strategies for Enhanced CBRNe Security and Resilience" track now addresses emerging challenges like the dual role of synthetic biology in biosecurity. Additionally, the "Comprehensive Crisis Management and Safety Innovations" track incorporates new sessions on innovative decontamination strategies and international cooperation frameworks.

This redesigned format allows participants to follow a specific area of interest throughout the symposium or easily switch between tracks for a more diverse learning experience. These dedicated tracks and new sessions aim to promote targeted discussions, encourage expert collaboration, and provide a comprehensive overview of the latest CBRNe protection developments.

ABOUT

A number of Swedish government agencies co-organise a Symposium on protection against hazardous substances every third year, with the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) serving as the main organiser. Initiated in the 1980s, the Symposium initially concentrated on protection against biological and chemical threats. Since the last two occasions, however, its has expanded to include nuclear and radiological issues, as well as explosives in conjunction with CBRN. The last Symposium attracted 600 attendees from 30 different countries, comprising 450 delegates and 150 exhibitors.

The 15th CBRNe Protection Symposium is scheduled to take place at Malmö Mässan, Malmö, Sweden, from 30 September to 2 October 2025. It targets professionals actively involved in the field of CBRNe protection. We invite all participants to enrich the symposium through engaging discussions, in-depth conversations, and the exchange of recent research findings.

An extensive exhibition of CBRNe protection equipment will be arranged in conjunction with the symposium, where industry leaders and institutes will display their latest products and research in an inspiring environment. This exhibition presents an excellent opportunity for symposium attendees to familiarise themselves with the latest commercially available, state-of-the-art equipment related to CBRNe protection.
