The rapid increase of E-scooters translates into more accidents

E-scooters have shown to be a new popular mode of transport. VSO Consulting for the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration’s research fund has investigated different aspects of e-scooters such as use and accident risk.

Electrification of the transport sector

Greater knowledge is required to accelerate the electrification of the transport sector. The Swedish Government has tasked the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) with contributing such knowledge. The first three reports, dealing with digitisation, costs and maritime shipping, have now been submitted.

Accidents potentially affected by conditionally automated vehicles in Finland

A recent study identified the potentially affected accidents by conditionally automated vehicles (SAE3) in Finland. The study was based on identifying the road network where the systems can be used and calculating the network’s current safety situation in terms of expected number of injury crashes, fatalities, and serious injuries.

New designs of ERTMS was tested by train drivers when VTI train simulator was on tour

The VTI train simulator was included in a research study during which train drivers were able to try out new designs of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) signalling system. The aim is to create optimal signalling projects combined with the best possible work environment for the train driver.
