The Europeanization of the aviation market has put strong competitive pressure on all stakeholders. As a result, Norwegian cabin crew have become a low-paid occupational group. Conditions are worsened by part-time work, and few Norwegians are staying for long in the occupation.

Vulnerable road users involved in accidents and their injuries

The Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) has conducted a comparative study on vulnerable road users, their involvement in accidents and injury outcomes. The risk of serious injury was greatest for pedestrians, especially older women. Other vulnerable groups were young male moped riders and younger school-age children riding bicycles.

Literature study on practical impacts of driving automation on traffic flow efficiency and emissions

Marketing and media have raised high expectations towards automated vehicles lowering road traffic emissions and improving efficiency, in addition to safety benefits. However, there is little evidence yet exists to support these claims, as found in a recent literature study.

Sustainable pavement

In VTI's road laboratory, test specimens of so-called ‘green’ asphalt are displayed on a bench. The asphalt is black in colour, but its properties make it better for the environment and climate than established asphalt mixtures, hence the name green asphalt. For example, the asphalt may last longer, have lower rolling resistance, provide quieter traffic and generate lower greenhouse gas emissions during production.

Comparison between IRI from connected cars and IRI from profilometer

Researchers at VTI have carried out an evaluation of roughness measurements from connected vehicles. The quality of the roughness data is determined by comparing the estimated IRI from the connected vehicles with the IRI measured by a profilometer along a loop of 288 km.
